We welcome everyone who delights in learning more about the extensive and fascinating past of our two communities.  Our members are involved in Howard-Suamico's history through a variety of programs and special events, meetings, projects in progress, including the collection process of historical items and collective ideas for our museum.

We invite you to join the growing number of HSHS members and we hope that you will share in our excitement, and take part to explore our bountiful heritage.



Our mission is to promote awareness of the Villages of Howard and Suamico's heritage and aiding in their preservation through identifying, recording, managing and providing access to their information.

Help save the barn at the

Robert Vickery Homestead!

To realize our goal of restoring a historically important homestead, we are launching a fundraising campaign to begin work on the 1870’s barn’s foundation. The cost of restoring the foundation is anticipated to be between $25,000 and $30,000. The society is seeking tax-deductible donations from individuals and corporations.

The stone foundation is giving way and the barn will begin to lean if it doesn’t receive attention before winter. The restoration of the remainder of the barn will be in spring 2014.

The barn will display plaques recognizing donors to the restoration. You can help to restore this local historical landmark with a donation. For further information or to make a donation, contact Mary Steffen (246-2947), Russ Roland (621-3935) or Nancy O’Kelley (434-0533).

The entire restoration of the homestead at 12787 Velp Avenue, will include the barn, farmhouse, outer buildings and grounds and will be a multi-year project.
